2002 Manitoba Winter Games

2002 was a Manitoba Winter Games year. The MTS Manitoba Winter Games were hosted in The Pas / OCN from March 6th to 10th. They were for all Manitobans aged 10 years and older who participate in sport.

The finals for the cross country ski event were held ~30K north of The Pas at Clearwater Lake Provincial Park on March 8th and 9th. The park's ski chalet is an amazing facility. The race in the morning on March 8th was classic technique with an interval start and distances of 2.5K to 10K depending on age/gender category, and in the afternoon there were fun sprint races. The race in the morning on March 9th was free technique with a mass start and distances of 5K to 15K depending on age/gender category.

Leading up to the finals in The Pas, athletes tried to qualify for their Regional Team. Winners in each gender/age category were selected to that region's Manitoba Winter Games Cross Country Ski Team.

All qualifying events were classic technique, and the distances were the same as at the Games in The Pas.

Note that some of the skiers are listed in a category that is older or younger than their actual age because Games rules allow a Regional Team to fill a vacant category by moving up skiers younger than 21-30, or moving down skiers older than 21-30.
