CWG Team January Training Camp by Phil Froese (posted Jan 23, 2007)
Our Canada Winter Games team had a busy and productive weekend training camp on January 20th and 21st.
The warm sunny Saturday was spent honing skating skills on the grinding hills at the Birch Ski Area. Thanks to Doug Keith for use of the facility and to Victor Chappellaz for the fabulous grooming.
The team was hosted overnight by the Froese and Warkentine families from Boundary Trails Nordic.
Sunday’s focus on classic technique started with a trail ski and grid workout at Burwalde Woods Ski Trails. For a final workout, the group went to the Shannondale Trails at Thornhill. A big thank you is due to Dave Lumgair, who had his trails immaculately groomed as usual.
Of course, hats off to Rob Kirchmann and Nadene McBride who carried off such an ambitious and well organized agenda.

2007 Canada Winter Games coaching staff (posted Aug 18, 2005)
Congratulations to Nadene McBride of Kenora Nordic Trails and Rob Kirchmann of Red River Nordic whom CCSAM has chosen as the male and female coaches for the Manitoba Cross Country Ski team competing in the 2007 Canada Winter Games in Whitehorse Yukon.
Nadene coached the Manitoba team in New Brunswick at the 2003 Canada Winter Games as well as the 2003 Nationals, the 2005 Westerns, and the 2005 Nationals. Rob co-coached the Manitoba team at the 2005 Westerns and Nationals, and is now working towards his NCCP Level 3 certification in preparation for the 2007 Games.
Identification of potential team members has already started with the Spring On Track Training Camp held at Minaki in June of this year. Upcoming camps are open to all skiers who will be between the ages of 16 and 23 in 2007. Look for details soon about the Fall On Track Training Camp in September with guest coach Eric Bailey of the National Team Development Centre in Thunder Bay. There's also the possibility of doing an training camp from January 4th to 8th because students will be off of school at that time and the Lappe Invitational is on Sunday January 8th.
If anyone has any questions about our team and its preparations for 2007, please contact Executive Director Karin McSherry in the CCSAM office, or Rob or Nadene, or High Performance Chair Paul Krueger.
